Benefits of Membership
- We organise three or four, one day outings each season which members can join. Usually these are between April and September and are in Kent, but we may vary the format and go out of county, but not too far, or target autumn colours. Normally there is a small per capita charge or entry fee payable.
- We also organise a long tour, usually Monday to Thursday or Monday to Friday, of the arboreta of some other county. We have done Yorkshire and Sussex and many others. Normally the long tour is in the second week of October.
- We have an annual general meeting for our members in April with guest speaker and an annual members’ lunch in November. Both these events are in Kent.
- Members have the right to attend the annual general meeting, to vote on business properly presented there, including the election of trustees, and to access the constitution. Members may, subject to constitutional conditions, requisition a general meeting.
- Members will receive our house magazine, Arbor, which is highly thought of.
- We have four classes of personal membership: Single, Family, Life and Honorary. Except as described below all members enjoy the same rights.
Guests
- Single Members, Life Members and Honorary Members are expected to come by themselves; Family membership comprising a named individual and a named partner may be accompanied by up to two children. Subject to space being available and agreement with the Trustees, members are welcome to bring extra guests to Kent Men of the Trees events provided they pay any applicable entry fee or other cost. Single Members regularly bringing guests will be invited to convert to Family membership.
Guests are admissible to general meetings of members of the charity, but may not vote.
Hereditability
- When a member dies the membership will lapse. Naturally we will be more than happy to recruit his/her friends or family as member in their place. In the case of a Life Member there is no annual subscription and membership ends with the death of the named individual; the Trustees may at their discretion offer an Honorary membership to his/her partner. An Honorary membership continues until revoked by the Trustees or the death of the individual.
Corporate Members
- Corporate Members have the same rights as personal members except they may only send two people to any Kent Men of the Trees event, unless by agreement with Kent Men of the Trees.
Finally…
It is the right and privilege of all our members to support us in our principal objectives which are to promote the planting of and care of trees in Kent, as well as promoting interest in knowledge of trees and their habitat.
